I have been cooking and entertaining for years, just as my mom did.  So many memories of all day spent in the kitchen or around the table with family and friends – talking, laughing and eating – creating memories.   From basement parties to family Thanksgivings, there are so many recipes and traditions that have been carried through the years that I cherish and hope to now pass on to my daughter who is getting married next year.

No matter where we have lived or the size of the kitchen I am always amazed at how people gravitate to the kitchen – the core of our home and definitely my happy place!   I love nothing more than people walking through the door and commenting on the smell, or friends watching me in action while we are chatting over cooking and cocktails. Cooking for others is my high.  It helps to have a husband who eats anything.. just sayin :o).

As much as I love to cook (and eat), at my age and given the shift in my metabolism it is not a luxury I can indulge in without some consideration to my fitness goals and health but this is a challenge I welcome!  I love finding new twists on old classics, recreating recipes I’ve had in restaurants and just having fun with healthier versions of food I love.  That being said, there are some classic meals or recipes you just can’t mess with so I may walk few more steps so I can indulge without guilt.   

I’m not going to lie, I also love to eat out, however much prefer a home cooked meal that I know exactly  what ingredients went into it, it wasn’t overpriced and always tastes better than the restaurant version. 

   

I will warn you, I don’t measure often unless it is critical to the outcome of the recipe but will do my best to do so in the recipes I share.  I love to experiment and often add flavors as I go on a whim - that’s just my style.   I also do not bake much as baking does tend to require precise measurements.  My Grandmother however could whip up an apple pie in a flash and I'm pretty sure she measured nothing and we are still on a quest to recreate her pie crust! 

 

I do not consider myself creative in general, but in the kitchen my creativity flows.  I am confident and fearless as it is my domain.  Cooking is like therapy for me.  I am going to share some family recipes, add my spin to common recipes and create some new ones.  I may even give baking a whirl.   I hope you feel inspired to get in the kitchen and cook without fear.    The full recipes are on my blog.
